Passive Energy Designs 2014-2015
The residence is a remodel of an early 1970's suburban ranch home. Walls were removed, new windows and a large sliding door were added, and the floorplan redesigned to be open concept and filled with light. While finishing touches are still to be completed (tilework, range hood, under cabinet lighting, door hardware), there are many custom features such as: toe kick drawers, hidden island electrical circuits, drawer pullouts, pot filler, chalkboard wall, and built ins for the refrigerator, microwave, and wine fridge. The half bathroom, laundry room, closet, entryway, fireplace, living room, garden, exterior siding, roof shingles, and entry door were also renovated and updated throughout the project.
Techstyle Haus

The Techsytle Haus is a prototype project designed and constructud by the students of Rhode Island School of Design, Brown University, and Fachhochschule Erfurt. Techstyle Haus was created as an entry into the Solar Decathon Europe in 2014 held in Versailles, France. Techstyle Haus is the first residential structure to use Sheerfill as the exterior membrane. It is also the first super insulated structure created and inspired by texstyle designs. The "haus" is net zero energy and was built again in its final resting place in Versailles France. Passive Energy Designs LLC acted as a consultant for the buildings energy and envelope systems. Ryan Abendroth was a visiting professor during the spring semester and a guest in Versailles for the competition.

The facade was covered with a limestone veneer that mixes split faces and smooth faces of the stone.

The Center for Design Research (CDR) is a project designed and constructud by the students of Studio 804. Studio 804 is a 5th year design build studio in Architcture at Kansas University in Lawarence, KS. The CDR is located in Lawerence, KS and used as a classroom and meeting space. The CDR includes a trombe wall consisting of electrochromatic glass (Sage). a green wall within the meeting space, a windmill, and a car charging station.

The Gable Home was a project design and constructed for the US Department of Energy's Solar Decathlon Competition in 2009. Gable Home was a product of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagin Schools of Architecture, Engineering, and Agriculture. The building was certified as a Passive House in Fall 2009.
